Quantaflex ELTM  Design Guide

Environmental Characteristics

Thermal Shock

QUANTAFLEX TM lamps are manufactured on a single substrate. The QUANTAFLEX TM inks closely match the coefficient of expansion of the substrate and the laminates. Consequently, during thermal shock, such as often occurs in an automotive environment, stresses do not occur. Package integrity and functionality are maintained.

Thermal shock has been a frequent and common failure mode for some other types of EL lamps. In these other types of lamps, the practice of using materials with widely varying coefficients of expansion causes unreconcilable stresses in the package and termination areas which lead to lamp failure.

QUANTAFLEX TM lamps have been designed to pass sever thermal shock tests including multiple cycles moving directly from -40C to +80C.
